How to stop Spotify from sending all your played songs to Facebook after you’ve allowed it to

The answer to how to stop sending your played songs to Facebook from Spotify is here in Spotify’s help, but it is still a bit unclear:

How can I enable or disable sharing of the music that I listen to to my Facebook friends?

Go to the Preferences page in Spotify (win: File menu, mac: Spotify menu). The setting is in the Facebook section.

Once you get to that screen, un-check the box that says:

Get personal recommendations by sending music you play to Facebook’s Open Graph

That’s a great bit of social platform doublespeak there. I haven’t gotten any personal recommendations yet, but it sure does seem to bother some of my friends who see it on their upper-right Facebook news feed. I value those friendships more than the promise of “personal recommendations” (isn’t that what Pandora is for?)
